A Wedding Playlist

We are going to ignore our lack of blogging last year and get right down to business.
It’s all about the music.

We feel passionate about this. Music is incredibly important. It helps create the feeling you want. It welcomes guests before the ceremony. It introduces the bride and groom before the reception. It brings people to the dance floor, and it says goodbye to everyone at the end of the night. Music is the background for every second of a wedding.

Here’s what an actual wedding playlist looks like.

The typical wedding ends up having about 100 songs. This includes everything- from the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception. The playlist below is from one of our weddings last year. We worked with the bride and groom to create a playlist that reflected their different tastes (she liked indie and pop, he liked classic rock) and the tastes of their guests. They gave us some specific songs they wanted, some ‘must-plays’, and we filled in much of the rest. The bride and groom gave us the important songs and a list of likes and dislikes, and we created the pre-ceremony playlist, the cocktail playlist, the dinner playlist, and everything else. This playlist is in order, from the first song that played to the last. Because of that, it shows what a typical schedule looks like- another thing we work on with the bride and groom.

We should add that this was an outdoor venue with a 10pm curfew. The dancing playlist would have been longer if we were inside. That being said, there are 94 songs in this playlist, pretty much standard. Many of these songs are classics that are often played at weddings. Some of them are not as common, like the remix of ‘Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap, or the cover of ‘Wonderwall’ by Ryan Adams. Some of these songs were requests from guests, like ‘Back in the U.S.S.R.’ by The Beatles (first time we ever played that at a wedding). We like to the keep the playlist as varied as possible, while staying true to the likes and dislikes of the bride and groom, and the taste of their guests. We’ll post more of these playlists throughout the year.
