Can You Dig… Convention?

The 2013 Arizona Association of Student Councils State Convention has just ended, and we definitely dig it. Convention is such an amazing experience, bringing together student councils and advisors from all over the state in a place where they can listen and learn from speakers, teachers, and each other. The host school this year was Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, AZ. Campo Verde was a great host, and it made us think back to all the other conventions we”ve been to… starting in 2005.
The first AASC State Convention we went to was in 2005 at Saguaro High School in Tucson, AZ. We were the featured entertainment and DJ, and we set up a huge stage with multiple video screens. We also had a karaoke party in a separate room. It was a 1950s theme, so we played a big mix of music and it was a lot of fun. This is where we met a lot of the high schools that we still work with now. That”s one of the amazing things about convention- some of the relationships that you make there can last forever.
The next convention that we attended was in 2007 at Ironwood High School in Glendale, AZ. We set up a booth, gave out stuff, and had fun just interacting with everyone. The energy at convention is infectious, we love it.
We didn”t attend convention again until 2009, but it was worth the wait. We were the featured DJ/entertainment again, and we still get pumped thinking about how much fun we had. The host school was Flowing Wells in Tucson, and they picked a Dr. Seuss theme. The Microgaming utvecklade snabbt en teknik som mojliggjorde videopoker pa internet och idag kan man spela manga olika former av videopoker pa nastan alla casinos ajter som finns. school looked great, they really went all out on decorations. We complimented the theme by working with Flam Chen to provide entertainment on the football field, where aerialists performed on silk that was hung from helium balloons.
We based our end-of-convention dance on the Dr. Seuss book Oh, The Places You”ll Go! We used the same helium balloons that Flam Chen used for their performance and used fabric hung all around to create a circus tent experience. With video screens, intelligent lighting, and our own DJ Diesel rocking the tunes, it looked and sounded awesome.
In 2010, convention was at North High School. We set up a booth and had fun meeting everyone and giving away stuff. Blue Ridge High School in Show Low hosted the convention in 2011, and we had the entire lobby of their theater to set up in, and we had a blast.
The year after that Cactus High School in Glendale hosted convention, and we again were the featured DJ/entertainment. The theme was “Out Of This World,” and it was. Cactus was a great host, and we really enjoyed working with them. We provided all the support for the main stage entertainment on the field, uplighting the school at night, and of course the dance. We brought our inflatable planets and hung them from a 40″x40″ box rig filled with lighting, along with confetti cannons, cryo jets, and our amazing crew of DJs and dancers. It literally was out of this world, and got so crazy that the cops had to shut it down.
So now that another convention has passed, we really can”t wait until the next one. Convention brings out the best in us, and in everyone we work with. See you next year, convention!
